Abstract

This article discusses Thomas Stamford Raffles' policies which emphasized the importance of respecting human rights in the context of colonialism amidst colonial policies which often caused suffering for humans in the 19th century. The research method used is historical and library research methods. The results of the discussion show that Thomas Stamford Raffles, when he ruled Indonesia in the early 19th century, was known for fairer policies, such as eliminating some practices of forced cultivation and slavery.
